About the department

The Department of Geomatics at the Faculty of Applied Sciences UWB is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, the first students were admitted to the newly opened field in 1995.

Geomatics as a scientific discipline deals with the acquisition, analysis, interpretation, distribution and use of geographic information. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines that can be used together to create a detailed but comprehensible picture of the physical world and our place in it. It includes disciplines such as surveying (geodesy), cartography, remote sensing, photogrammetry, global positioning on the Earth's surface and geographical information systems.

Graduates of Geomatics will find a wide range of applications in a number of fields. In addition to traditional geodesy and cadastre, this is a broad area of geographic information systems, cartography, remote data collection, geoinformation technologies (e.g. navigation) or databases. Experts in the above-mentioned fields are required in the state administration, small and medium-sized companies, as well as in large multinational concerns in the Czech Republic and abroad. Graduates of further studies also have the opportunity to obtain the document "Officially Authorised Land Surveying Engineer"
